Energy Efficient Restaurant Equipment

Energy-efficient equipment offers operators the opportunity to lower their overall operating costs. By determining how much money an operator can expect to save is easier said than done. To help simplify matters, new online calculators are available to help members of the foodservice industry estimate the potential annual savings the use of these technologies could achieve in specific situations. One specific example are the Energy Star foodservice calculators, which cover commercial refrigerators and freezers, gas and electric fryers and steam cookers, cabinets for holding hot foods, and vending machines. All of the calculators provide results for electrical energy savings.
The new calculators consist of two pages — one for the calculator itself, and one for the assumptions used for the calculation. With the addition of these new foodservice equipment calculators, there are now 41 Energy Star calculators in alll.

These calculators are available at http://www.energystar.gov

Restaurant Supply Inventors Recognized

The National Restaurant Association today announced the recipients of the 2007 Kitchen Innovations™ (KI) Award for its Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show, to be held May 19-22, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Highlighting trend-setting kitchen equipment, the Show will again showcase award recipients in live, interactive demonstrations throughout the exclusive Kitchen Innovations Pavilion.

"Our Kitchen Innovations Award program is now in its third highly successful year, and previous award recipients have gained tremendous strides in promoting their cutting-edge products to the world of foodservice," said Association President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson. "Innovative equipment does not only benefit restaurants by increasing productivity, conserving the environment and keeping employees safe, it can also have a big impact on the consumer side by increasing speed and quality of service and menu items. While chef creativity is the number one influence on what's on the menu, great equipment can enhance those options."
